South Bay resident beset with algae problems

EDITOR’S NOTE: This letter was sent to Minister of Environment John Gerretsen and MPP Mike Brown in 2010. It has been reprinted in The Expositor at the author’s request.

To the Expositor:

I live on South Bay, Assiginack Municipality, near Manitowaning and I have been here twelve years. Last summer for the first time algae was on our shore.

The summer of 2010, I started calling Mike Brown’s office, Tom Farquahar’s, also Ministry of Environment Drew Brenham, Brian Bell from Agriculture. I was very disappointed in all three offices.

The summer of 2010 the cows were back in the lake. The people along this shore use the lake water for drinking with the light system and filters. Drilling a well was not successful because of iron and sulphur.

Please help!

Thanking you,
