Providence Bay News & Notes

Warning, this is old news, but very important too. We hope you enjoy.

Welcome to Brandon Currie, who bought the corner property at the junction of Hwy 551, Government Road and the road to the marina. Brandon and his family will be staying in their trailers on the property. They are no strangers to Providence Bay since they are avid anglers and have been fishing the waters of our beautiful bay for many years.

Happy Belated Birthday wishes go out to Doris Aziz (nee McDermid) of Brampton who turned 89 on July 26. She was born and raised in Providence Bay and keeps up to date on the goings on here with a subscription to one of our local papers. Her sister Shirley McKeddie (nee McDermid) turns 85 on August 5. Happy Birthday to you both.

A bear was spotted in the village late one night. Just a reminder to everyone to be bear wise. Make sure that you only put your garbage out when it’s ready for pick up each Wednesday, do not use bird feeders to feed the birds (there is enough natural food sources for them at this time of year). Do not feed your pets out doors and make sure that you keep your barbecues clean. We can all help to decrease bear encounters.

Condolences go out to the Davis and the Patterson family on the recent drowning death of young Kyle Benedict. He is the son of Samantha Davis and Will Benedict. Such a tragic occurrence. Visitations were held at the Providence Bay Community Centre on Tuesday and the funeral service will be held there as well on Wednesday, July 31 at 2 pm.

Glen and Mona Bryan of Windsor are back up to their summer home enjoying time with family and friends.

Kathy (nee Simpson) and Mike Warner and son Jake who also brought his friend and football teammate Caleb also from Windsor are up visiting family and friends.

Come on down to Huron Island Time on Friday, August 2 for their next performance for the summer sunset concert series. Claude Munson, an impressionist, folk singer and songwriter will delight audience members on the boardwalk.

The Manitoulin Salmon Classic is back again as of July 27 and many avid fisherpersons are out trying their luck. There have already been a number of big fish pulled out of our waters. Good luck to all entrants.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Gary Bryan who celebrates on July 31.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to Dan and Alexia Gilchrist who have been married 16 years on August 2 and to Amy and John Wright who celebrate 18 years of marriage on August 4.

Visitors from across the pond are Tim McFarlane and Maciek Zielinski of London, England. They are here to visit Mom Bonnie as well as other family and friends.
