Noojmowin Teg hosts annual children’s soccer tournament

The annual Noojmowin Teg soccer tournament gets youth from across Manitoulin outside and active.

M’CHIGEENG – The Healthy Living Children and Youth Program at Noojmowin Teg Health Centre has been offering a free six-week soccer program to  partnering communities for the past three years.

To wrap up the program, Noojmowin Teg hosts a soccer tournament for the children. This year the soccer tournament was held in M’Chigeeng First Nation where five communities participated: M’Chigeeng First Nation, Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, Whitefish River First Nation and Sheguiandah First Nation.

The tournament was a big success with each team playing five games, a healthy lunch was provided as well as a fish fry by UCCM Anishnaabe Police. Partners from Noojmowin Teg provided additional workshops for the day including gardening and children’s activities.
