LITTLE CURRENT—The afternoon billing didn’t deter the fans from coming out to support the Manitoulin Secondary School Mustang boys’ hockey team on Monday as they dashed the hopes of the sixth place Lively Hawks from continuing on to semi-final action.
The final score for the Mustangs was 9-2 on Monday afternoon, firmly securing them a berth at the semi-finals when they take on second place Notre Dame beginning this Thursday night at 6:30 pm at the Carmichael Arena in Sudbury for the first game in a best-of-three series. The third place Mustangs will then face off in Little Current the following night, Friday, with the puck drop at 7 pm. Dominance in this series means a place in the championship and what promises to be fast, action-packed hockey. If a third game against Notre Dame is required it will be played the following week in Sudbury.
The ‘Stangs are on a hot streak too, beating Lively last Tuesday in Little Current by a score of 10-2 and St. Charles the following night in Sudbury 5-2.
“We’re playing the best hockey we have all season,” said coach Brad Bond following the Monday afternooner. “Some of those goals tonight were highlight reel goals.”
Cheer on the Mustangs in their quest for Sudbury District supremacy this Friday night, February 13, at 7 pm at the Little Current recreation centre.
