MSS Kids in the Halls

It is now March, so we know what that means: the clocks go back this weekend! Whether you are excited for that or not, it will happen. Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night. A time change joke for you:

Most modern clocks these days auto-update when daylight savings begins/ends. So this morning I’m walking around my house thinking wow…times have changed.

Both the boys’ and girls’ hockey teams finished off their seasons last week. On Monday, February 24, the boys’ team lost their third semi-final game 8-2 against St. Benedict, ending their season. Andrew Hughson, the team’s goalie, won the top goalie of the Sudbury B division league. Congratulations!

On Tuesday, February 25, the girls’ hockey team played strong but lost to L’horizon 3-0 in their final game of the season. Great season, girls!

On Monday, February 24, the junior girls’ volleyball team participated in NOSSA in North Bay. The girls fought hard, but lost their first two games against Franco-Cité and Collège Notre-Dame. The girls’ final game was against Notre-Dame-du-Sault. They lost their first set, and were down seven points in the second set, but they came back to win the next two sets. The team finished third overall at NOSSA and came home with a bronze medal. Congratulations girls on a wonderful season!

On Wednesday, February 26, some MSS students participated in the Technological Skills Competition at Cambrian College. Students tested their skills in carpentry, welding, TV/video editing, photography, auto-service technology, 2D character animation, electrical installations, cabinet making and small-powered equipment, prepared speech, auto computer aided design and coding. MSS students used their skills to do some incredible things. Great job, Mustangs!

Even though there was a snow day on Thursday, February 27, that didn’t stop the Snowmobile Fun Run from happening. MSS students, staff and parents as well as some members from the OPP and UCCM rode the trails on Manitoulin for the day.

Due to the snow day on February 27, vocal group practice has been rescheduled for tomorrow, March 5. Any new and returning members are welcome to practice after school on Thursdays. The vocal group will be getting ready for the spring talent show and concert in a few months. See Mr. Theijsmeijer for more information.

MSS’s robotics team ‘Manitoulin Metal’ will be competing at Georgian College in Barrie from Friday, March 6 until Sunday, March 8. This is their first competition with the robot that they built and coded for the school year. The team is also participating in another competition at the end of March. Go, Mustangs, go!

Joke of the week: What is it called when a robot eats a sandwich in one chomp? A megabyte.

Upcoming events include the robotics competition, March Break and much more!

Until next time, “Dream and Believe. Learn and Achieve!”
