Contraband cigarettes seized during OPP R.I.D.E

PARRY SOUND– On April 17, 2014 members of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Highway 69 in Archipelago Township. At approximately 11:40 p.m. officers noticed a pick-up truck that looked heavily weighed down at the rear. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the back of the truck contained 25 cases of contraband cigarettes. Each case contained 50 cartons, 200 cigarettes per carton. The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged under the Tobacco Tax Act.

Daryl PRICE, 51 years of age, Sheena DUCZEK, 29 years of age, and Niomi PRANTEAU, 42 years of age, all from Manitoba were charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale
  • Possession of unmarked cigarettes

The three individuals charged will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Parry Sound on June 24, 2014.
