Community shares intimate Christmas Day dinner

LITTLE CURRENT – A community Christmas lunch organized by Sally Assinewai, Norma Hughson and Cole Hughson was held on Christmas day at the Little Current United Church hall.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local sponsors, all the elves who worked tirelessly to help make this a successful Christmas Day lunch,” said Ms. Hughson, “and all who came to enjoy the day. Thank you all.”

The organizers had been contemplating the idea of a community meal on Christmas Day for some time. “This year we decided to give it a try,” said Ms. Hughson. “There are a lot of folks who are on their own at Christmas time and you likely aren’t going to be cooking up a hot roast turkey and everything when there is only yourself or one other person.”

Several community members and local businesses stepped up to assist with the project. “We had really good support for the Christmas Day lunch,” she said.

George and Lynda Williamson provided entertainment for the meal, with an assist from Cole. Ms. Williamson also took on a stint as one of the kitchen crew.

“Everyone seemed to be having a great time,” said one participant. “A few of our neighbours were there and it was a great meal. Sally and Norma did a great job putting it all together.”

The group is planning to hold the event again next year.
