Membership Clerk/Indian Registration Administrator

Permanent Part-time

The Whitefish River First Nation is seeking a motivated individual to fulfill the roles and responsibilities for the position of Part-Time Membership Clerk/Indian Registration Administrator (I.R.A.) The Membership Clerk/IRA will manage the Whitefish River First Nation Membership Program under the direction and supervision of the Whitefish River First Nation Lands Manager and Band Council, the Membership Clerk/ IRA will maintain the Indian Register and the Whitefish River First Nation Citizenship and Probationary Citizenship Registers. The successful application will be responsible for (but not limited to):


Must maintain strict Confidentiality at all times. Only the membership Clerk/IRA will be privy to membership documentation, and ensure that no documentation relating to Membership is disclosed to the public.

Maintain accurate filing system including maintaining the WRFN Citizenship Register, Probationary Citizenship Register, and the WRFN Voter’s List for Election purposes.

Obtain and carefully examine supporting documents to Register Life Events for band members (births, deaths, marriages, divorce, name change, band transfer, etc.) which affect the Indian Register.

Issuance of Certificate of Indian Status Cards, upon successful completion of the Indian Registration Administrator’s Training.

Submit weekly reports to Indigenous Services Canada.

Distribute & received Citizenship Applications, Prepare family trees

Prepare meeting packages for Citizenship Advisory Committee. Attend Citizenship Advisory Committee Meetings as a Resource Person and in a non-voting capacity, prepare meeting minutes.

Submit Citizenship Advisory Committee recommendations to Chief and Council for approval.

Prepare Band Change Report as required and post for thirty (30) days.

Prepare Band Council Resolutions that affect the WRFN Citizenship Register or WRFN Probationary Citizenship Register.

Attend Nomination Meetings, Elections, Referendums

Attend Training, workshops relevant to WRFN Membership program as required


Experience in general office administration.

Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Proficiency in computer skills in Microsoft office, specifically Word and Excel

Knowledge of the Indian Act as it pertains to Indian Status,

Knowledge of Aboriginal Culture, Traditions, communication styles and value systems
