The Whitefish River First Nation is seeking a motivated individual to fulfill the roles and responsibilities for the position of Lands Assistant. The Lands Assistant under the direction and supervision of the Lands Manager and Band Manager, will assist the Lands Manager with Management of Reserve, Environmental, Surrendered and Designated Lands. The Lands Assistant will assist with maintaining all aspects of land leasing and permit operations, assist the Lands Manager in preparing and maintaining records and land transaction documentation, and provide Administrative Support to the Lands Department. The successful application will be responsible for (but not limited to):
LANDS ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist Lands Manager with all aspects of lands administration, including maintaining land leasing operations, permits, land allotment postings, land notices, preparation of land instruments for Registration in Indian Lands Registry System, historical research.
Provide administrative support for Lands Department including preparation of correspondence, Band Council Resolutions, and reports relating to First Nation Lands Matters.
Assist in the monitoring of environmental issues as they pertain to First Nation Lands,
Assist and attend Field work and site inspections as required.
Attend Lands Department Meetings, record and distribute Lands Department meeting minutes
Attend meeting, workshops and conferences on behalf of Lands Department as required.
Travel, when required, to assist the Lands Manager in undertaking research concerning Whitefish River First Nation Lands
Abide by Personnel Policies of Whitefish River First Nation
Training in land use and in general office administration
Knowledge of land use and environmental issues as they affect First Nations
Experience in administration and natural resources areas.
Experience in general accounting.
Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in computer skills in Microsoft office, specifically Word and Excel
Knowledge of the Indian Act as it pertains to Lands Management
Knowledge of Aboriginal Culture, Traditions, communication styles and value systems.
