Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services

Location: Sudbury and Manitoulin

Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) is a designated Child Welfare Service delivering Child Protection Services within seven member First Nations in the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. KGCFS honours and supports our families’ and community’s inherent authority to care for their children based on unity, traditions, values, beliefs and customs

FAMILY COUNSELLOR
(2) Permanent, Full time positions
Location: (1) Sudbury and (1) Manitoulin

Under the direction of the Service Supervisor, the incumbent will work collaboratively with all KGCFS resources the in ongoing communication with children, families, caregivers and relevant external agencies for assigned caseloads. Provides therapeutic intervention services including skill building, behavioural intervention, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, rational emotive therapy and other cognitive strategies. Ensures that the family understands the issues identified in the risk management assessment and ensures that a support system is in place.

 Education:                     

  • A Bachelor of Social Work Degree or equivalent in education in the social services field is preferred.
  • A Social Services Diploma may be considered.
  • At least two (2) years in family therapy and/or crisis intervention, and; at least two (2) years of youth and family support is mandatory.

CUSTOMARY CARE COORDINATOR
(1) Permanent, Full time position
Location: (1) Sudbury

Reporting to the Specialized Service Supervisor, the Customary Care Coordinator is responsible for the education and awareness of the Customary Care service model and program to the seven First Nations and their membership and other First Nations served by KGCFS.  The position will be responsible to coordinate Customary Care Agreements among the UCCMM affiliated First Nations, WIikwemikong Unceded Territory and other First Nations within the agency’s service delivery area and outside of the agency’s service delivery area for the member First Nations.

 Education:                     

  • A Bachelor of Social Work Degree or equivalent in education in the social services field is preferred.
  • A Social Services Diploma may be considered.

FAMILY TEAM GATHERING COORDINATOR

(1) Permanent, Full time position

Location: (1) Sudbury

Reporting to the Service Supervisor, the Family Team Gathering Coordinator (FTGC) provides progressive support to Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) in all aspects of case conferencing. The FTGC coordinates schedules and facilitates family circles with families, children and other participants in the community in accordance with provisions of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017; Ministry Regulations; Policy Directives and First Nation Standards.

Education:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work Degree or equivalent in education in the social services field is preferred
  • A Social Services Diploma may be considered.

COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST
(1) Permanent, Full time position
Location: (1) sudbury OR manitoulin

The Communication and Public Relations Specialist reports directly to the Executive Director and serves as the lead internal resource/ specialist on all communications issues and public relations. The incumbent is responsible for managing media and public relations activities and for promoting positive public understanding and support for the Agency.

 Education:                     

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized Post-Secondary Institution, preferably in journalism or communications, in addition to appropriate training in Communications and/or Public Relations.
  • A Social Services Diploma may be considered.
  • Preference for candidates with a minimum of five years’ experience in Communications and Public Relations

CASE AIDE
(4) Permanent, Full time position
Location: (2) Sudbury and (2) manitoulin

Under the supervision of the Service Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible to coordinate and facilitate access visits between children and their family members and providing services on the continuum of access arrangements and assist staff in providing direct support services to children, youth, and families.

Education:                     

  • Minimum Two (2) Year Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker diploma, or other diploma in the social services field with relevant experience.

CULTURAL ENAADAAMAAGET

(2) Permanent, Full time position
Location: (1) Sudbury and (1) manitoulin
(Youth outreach and engagement)

Under the direction of the Service Supervisor, the Cultural Enaadaamaaget will work collaboratively with the specialized team and child welfare teams in the delivery of culturally appropriate services and supports and agency planning and development.

The two new Cultural Enaadaamaaget positions will include working specifically with youth in care and kinship care and their caregivers, family and community supports in developing wholistic planning and cultural supports and completing youth outreach through development, coordination and delivery of cultural and land based programming. The positions will be key relative to enhancing youth engagement and ensuring positive outcomes relative to child welfare supports and services.

In addition, primary duties will also include development, coordination and delivery of youth support circles in Sudbury and Manitoulin and development, coordination and delivery of a youth advisory council to assist the organization in ensuring programs and services receive youth feedback and advice.

 Education:                     

  • Minimum Two-Year College Diploma from an accredited college in a discipline related to Anishinaabe Studies.
