The NAANDWECHIGE-GAMIG Wikwemikong Health Centre is seeking to fill a full-time position for a Child Well-Being Worker, in the Children’s Services Program.

Job Summary

Through individual, one-to-one support, the Child Well-Being Worker will provide parents and caregivers in the community accessibility to early intervention and support related to healthy child and family development. The incumbent will provide awareness and information on traditional parenting within the family and by using appropriate resources. Through the group process, this position will network with partner agencies to assist and support weekly outreach programming in each of the satellite communities.

The Child Well-Being Worker is responsible for:

  • Maintain family caseload management and service coordination of clientele by supporting the progress of families and meeting their specific needs;
  • Report and provide other assigned duties in collaboration with the Children’s Services Program Manager;
  • Ensure the Wiikwemkoong Children’s Bill of Rights is followed;
  • Establish respectful relationships with the children and their families to establish positive development goals for children 2 ½ to 6 years of age;
  • Provide enhanced knowledge of children’s growth and development that impacts their health & well being to allow families to be fully informed to make good decisions for the child’s needs;
  • Provide resources through referral sources available in the community and within the region to support children’s growth, special needs and development of families;
  • Provide home visiting services to parents and caregivers, also with appropriate resources on child development in the context of the home and in group programming;
  • Collaborate with families to establish family development goals, crisis support, resources, referral services and document this collaborative process in family partnership agreements;
  • Educate parents with respect to children’s health status, including medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health and nutritional intake;
  • Be sensitive to the challenges of parents, offer encouragement, hope and reassurance for parenting;
  • Coordinate the transportation of families to and from weekly programming and/or other activities;


  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in health, social services and early childhood education.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with children and families.
  • Experienced parent or caregiver with a genuine interest in working with and assisting families with young children.
  • Willingness to work primarily in families’ homes.
  • Capacities to problem solve, handle crises and work with families and children with professionalism.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal skills required to work effectively with families and within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract;
  • Knowledge of First Nation tradition and culture/language or be willing to learn.
  • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint);
  • Basic office equipment (fax, photocopier);
  • Use of Clinical equipment (for Baby Weigh-In)
