In loving memory of Helen Fogal, a resident of the Manitoulin Lodge, who died at the Lodge on Monday August 23, 2010 at the age of 85 years. She was born at Long Bay, daughter of the late Clarence and Edna (Van Meer) Haner. Helen had worked as a school teacher for many years. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, and working on the farm. Predeceased by husband Raymond Fogal (1994). Devoted mother of Beverly (Fred) Pickard, Clarence (Judy) Fogal, William (Bonnie) Fogal, Doug Fogal, Edna (Lyle) Campbell and Carrie (Merv) Lewis. Loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Loving sister of Beth Rodgers. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her brothers Howard, Calvin and Doug. Friends called at the Culgin Funeral Home, Gore Bay on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 7 - 9 pm. The funeral service was conducted in the chapel on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11 am. Interment in Gordon Cemetery. GLADYS MABLE MACKIE (NEE KITCHIKEG)
In loving memory of Gladys Mable Mackie (nee Kitchikeg), 75 years, who passed away on August 28th at the Manitoulin Centennial Manor in Little Current. Beloved wife of Robert Mackie. Cherished mother of Debbie Galley (husband Michael) of Kent, England, Clay of Kent, England, Clive of Oshawa, Lora of Little Current, and Robert of Oshawa. Dear grandmother to Jasmyn and Jessica Galley and Ronnie Matthew Wakegijig. Treasured daughter of the late Edward Kitchikeg and Annie (nee Beaucage). Dear sister of Leonard Kitchikake and of the late Pauline, Mary, Delia, Nora Shawande, Rita Fineday, Georgina King, and Lillian Thibeault. Loving sister-in-law to Ruth Smith, Marie Martin, and Rose Mackie. Sadly missed by many dear nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Gladys was born September 15, 1934 at South Bay on Manitoulin Island. In the early 1950s, Gladys moved to Little Current where she worked for the Manitoulin Expositor. She enjoyed learning many aspects of newspaper work. In the mid 1950s, Gladys met and married her husband, Robert. Gladys was a most loving and devoted mother to their five children. The family travelled and lived in many places from Ontario, Quebec, to Newfoundland. In the 1970s and 1980s, Gladys valued working with mentally challenged children at Christopher Robin Home and Hillview School. She also greatly enjoyed working as a residential supervisor/housemother at Trafalgar Castle Girls School. Gladys loved travelling, especially to the Bahamas and Jamaica. She also enjoyed attending pow wows, playing games with her grandchildren, reading, and listening to music. Her kindness, sincerity and vibrant personality will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to the staff of the Manitoulin Centennial Manor for their care. Resting at the Fineday/Shawanda residence in Sheguiandah, Ontario. Funeral to be held at Our Lady of Grace Church, South Bay, Ontario on Wednesday, September 1st at 11 am. Interment in the South Bay cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed's Funeral Home, Sudbury, Ontario.
EVERETT FRANK LEESON
It is with sadness that the family of Everett Frank Leeson announces his sudden and peaceful passing on August 25, 2010 in Nanaimo, B.C. at the age of 89. Everett was born on November 23, 1920 in 'The White House' at South Baymouth, the youngest son of Hugh Frederick Leeson and Kathryn Patterson Chisholm. Everett was very pleased to be able to visit Manitoulin in July 2010 and visit relatives and friends there, including Dave Leeson, Wayne Sanders, Donna Phillips, Mary Leeson, Loretta Mucha and Dick and Eunice Bowerman. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Louise (Powell) and his siblings: Roy (Eunice Ainslie), Hilda Findlay (Fred), Neola Sanders (William) and William (Adella Ritchie). Everett is survived by his children James (Renate) of Victoria, Terry (Beverly) of Brisbane, Australia, Roy (Karen) of Victoria, Maureen Parsons (Ray Satermo) of Nanaimo, and Michael (Sabina) of Victoria; grandchildren Heather Chan (Darryl), Ian Leeson, Colin, Neil and Nicole Parsons, Jacinta Leeson, Michael and Oshin Ghazarian-Leeson; great-grandchildren Matthew and Riley Chan; his long-time friend and companion May King and a large extended family. RAE SIZE (NEE SCOTT)
In loving memory of Rae Size, 83 years, who passed away peacefully on August 27, 2010. Mother of Elaine Bruce (Jim Jordan), Eleanor Leeson (Alex) and Allison Shalla. Nan will be missed by five grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew, Jennifer (Shawn), Julie, Courtney and two great-grandchildren Miles and Theo. Rae spent many years faithfully tending bar at the Terrace Lounge. She loved to bake, make beautiful quilts and knit many "a sock and mitt" for her family. She will be truly missed. Memorial Service was in the R.J. Barnard Chapel Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Tuesday, August 31, at 3 pm. Friends called in the chapel after 2:45 pm on Tuesday. Cremation. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund or Make a Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
