MSS gymnasts excel at provincials

    SUDBURY—The Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS) gymnastics team did well at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) competition in Belleville last week, finishing with two second place medals and one fourth place win.

    Mackenzie Cortes won the silver on level 3 uneven bars with a score of 9.05, a second silver on level 3 beam with a score of 9.4 and placed fourth on level 3 vault with a score of 9.375.

    The MSS Novice Aerobics Team of Sabrina Cosby, Summer Beaudin, Kendra Jordison and Mackenzie Cortes finished fourth in their category.

    Coach Heather Theijsmeijer commented that she and fellow coach Jill Ferguson were proud of the team and how well they performed at the provincial competition.

    The MSS gymnastics team competed at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) championship in Sudbury earlier this month and came away with some strong showings, earning many of them a spot at OFSAA.
