John was born in Quetta, India where his father was a medical doctor with the Indian Medical Services. He came to Canada at age 8 where he attended Upper Canada College followed by The University of Toronto Medical School. Before retiring John practiced at the Toronto General Hospital where he was Program Director of Anaesthesia and later at the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Hospital. He was also an Associate Professor of Anaesthesia at the University of Toronto where his love of teaching was apparent. John received accolades as a respected teacher from his many students and colleagues. John also loved sailing, playing squash at the R.C.Y.C., his over 25 years vacationing and hosting fundraisers on Manitoulin Island, along with various celebrations with his cherished friends. He and Ardith shared many years of travels which included their love of dancing together. John is survived by his wife Ardith (Moore), daughter Carol (McGrath), sons Jim and Paul, stepchildren Tracey and Wade Stark, nine grandchildren and his brother Bill. If desired, expressions of sympathy can be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Anglican Church, Mindemoya, Ontario or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his Life will be held at Christ Church Deer Park at 1570 Yonge Street in Toronto at 11 am on Friday, September 23, 2016. Private Interment at Mindemoya Cemetery, Manitoulin Island will follow at a later date.
